The Link Between Mental Illness and Well-Being
Health is a condition of mental, physical and social well being where infirmity and illness are absent. A number of definitions have been used over the years for various applications. One of them is to be healthy at heart and this implies that people should have no history of cardiovascular disease, stroke or blood clots. One can also say that being healthy at heart implies being free from any kind of infectious diseases. The second definition to be healthy at heart is that a person must have no history of abnormal weight gain or abnormal depression.
Other than these two important determinants, there are many other factors that come into play in determining the human health status. The prevalence of diabetes mellitus, hypertension, hypertension, dyspepsia and diabetes insipidus are some of the most common determinants of unhealthy conditions. On the other hand, the prevalence of high blood pressure, cardiac disease, and coronary artery disease are also important determinants. These causes are usually treatable, although preventive measures can also minimize the effect of chronic diseases on health. Some of the major diseases that have a detrimental effect on human health include: cancer, leukemia, HIV, lung disease, diabetes mellitus, heart failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, stroke, kidney disease, anorexia, bulimia, eating disorders, anorexia nervosa, osteoporosis, cataract, pancreatitis, kidney stones, osteonecrosis and vitamin D intoxication.
It is quite clear that being mentally ill has a negative impact on one’s well-being and this is why we need to address this issue on a more aggressive basis. Mental illness and its related problems such as those mentioned above do not discriminate. They affect everybody including children, teenagers, adults, married couples, and even elders alike. The only solution to this problem is to ensure that you get proper and ongoing mental health treatment.
