A sports drama is a fictional film genre which makes use of sports as the central theme of the movie. It is a fictional production where a fictional sport, real sport event, player, or supporter of that sport are heavily involved, and that depend greatly on sports to some extent for their major plot developments or resolution. The major characters in these films could be sports fans/players themselves, other characters that are loosely affiliated with the fictional sport, the athletes themselves, or mere observers who partake in the sports. The plots of these movies could be historical, inspirational, heroic, outrageous, hilarious, tragic, thrilling, or just plain weird. Some of these plots have evergreen themes, while others are genre-specific. Most of these films are box-office hits, making them worthy of at least one sequel.

With an estimated following of nine billion fans, this is by far the most popular sports franchise in the world.

NFL: The National Football League boasts the most famous teams and players in the world, with the most popular ones being the New Orleans Saints and the Dallas Cowboys. This also includes professional football in the United Kingdom, which has the England and Wales teams. Rugby is the most popular professional sport in the world outside of soccer, and is especially popular in the United Kingdom, with the English and Welsh national teams. It has the second most estimated following behind NBA, with over six billion fans.
