What Is the Definition of Wellness?

Health, as defined by the World Health Organization, is a condition of full physical, mental and emotional well-being with no limitations. Various definitions have also been employed over the years for various purposes. Some experts believed that well being means having good relationships with others, being content in one’s own situation, and having an outlook that one is able to cope with the problems that come along in everyday life.

It is considered good health when individuals have reasonable knowledge about their body, the basics of nutrition, and how to manage their health and well being. It is necessary to have good habits, and avoid bad habits, such as smoking, alcohol abuse, and unhealthy physical environments, to achieve full well-being. There are many factors that contribute to individual’s well being including heredity, social environment, biological predisposition, genetic factors, and environmental factors.

The definition of good health has changed through time; from ancient times up to the present day, it has been associated with longevity and quality of life. These factors include physical activity, a balanced diet, and a balanced lifestyle. The lifestyle includes balanced eating and a regular exercise. Environmental risk factors include exposure to diseases and toxins, which can cause serious illnesses, especially cancer, and certain types of diseases that are more common in some geographical regions than in others, like diabetes.
