Types of Sports Films From the Modern Day

A sports movie is an entertaining film genre which uses sports as the main theme of the movie. It’s a fictional production in which an athlete, sporting event, game, or fan of sports are heavily involved, and that often depend heavily on sports to an extent for their storyline resolution or goal motivation. Some examples of this genre include Boxerino, Crouching Tiger, Invictus, A League Of Their Own, Field Of Dreams, and lots more. It’s a great genre for films because its easy to relate to, and it often times goes against the grain when Hollywood gets involved. But also because of how tough it can be to make a sports movie because its hard to objectively watch sports and objectively create something from it.

There are two types of sports movies out there; one is the autotelic sport film, where the movie takes place entirely in sports, where the athletes and players are generally very good at whatever sport they’re in, whether it’s baseball, basketball, gymnastics, football, hockey, tennis, etc. They’re so good that they’re almost superhuman. This type of film almost requires a mental ability to excel at sports, and also requires a physical skill in order to excel at sports. Whereas a character in a normal film would have to have some sort of natural talents to be successful in sports, this character must possess an unnatural ability. Sports which fall into this category include Pictionary, Bridal Pictionary, and Battle at Kruger.

The second type of sports movie is the non-sport film, or sports drama. This type of film depicts sports from the perspective of the fans, instead of athletes. It’s a modern take on sports and shows the viewers what fans would be like if they won, lost, or loved in the sport. This category includes such works as Monday Night Soccer, Rounders, Lancers, Billabong, and the list could go on. While these sports are all typically American, there is a lot of European influence in the 20th century sports dramas.
