What Is Health and How to Improve Your Well-Being?
Health, as defined by the World Health Organization, is “the state of full physical, emotional and social well being and not just the absence of illness and disease.” A variety of other definitions have also been used over the years for various purposes. For instance, health can mean a person’s ability to live a productive life, manage his or her resources, cope with stress, and work productively. It can also mean a person’s capacity to achieve happiness and well being.
The best way to understand your own level of wellness is to assess your risk factors and try to modify them, if possible. Risk factors include both internal and external factors. These include age, sex, social class, and other socioeconomic factors. Likewise, external factors refer to environmental conditions including pollution, violence, ultraviolet radiation, and others. A good way to measure your level of well-being is to evaluate your lifestyle and identify any unhealthy behaviors, unhealthy eating habits, and physical manifestations of illnesses such as obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and cancer.
In addition, you can improve your physical health by adopting a healthy lifestyle and keeping in check your weight. This can include maintaining a regular exercise routine, getting enough sleep, and consuming a balanced diet. You can also prevent the onset of some serious health risks by managing stress, monitoring and changing your body’s exposure to dangerous elements, and getting your blood pressure under control. On the other hand, there are some mental health problems that are difficult to treat.
