What Is Good Health?

Health, as defined by the World Health Organization, is an “uneven condition of the body with respect to its physiological, emotional, social and cultural well-being.” Various definitions have also been applied for different purposes over the years. In common use, the definition most often associated with the United States is being healthy, but there are variations across countries in how healthy is viewed and what a healthy person looks like.

In order to obtain good health, it is important to make lifestyle choices that focus on healthy habits and regular medical checkups. Healthy diet and exercise, including relaxation techniques such as meditation, yoga and deep breathing, are important aspects of a good life. Other things that contribute to good health include well-balanced sleep patterns, limiting alcohol intake, quitting smoking and reducing stress. In addition, maintaining mental health can promote good health as well. Good mental health allows people to live better and cope with everyday stresses, which are known causes of ill-health.

One important area that many people do not focus on when they consider their overall health is physical education and child health. Physical education promotes a healthy body mass index and tells children what they should eat and what they should avoid to stay healthy. The American Academy of Pediatrics even recommends that all children get at least one hour of physical activity daily. Programs that provide after school sports programs for kids as well as healthy eating clubs and other forms of physical activity are also important aspects of good health care. All these things lead to good health and a long life.
