Health is a condition of physical, mental and emotional well-being where infirmity and illness are absent. Some of the most common definitions used over the years have been for sexual purposes, body image and weight loss. The American Medical Association has defined health as “a state of complete physical and mental health that is achieved through regulated activity” while the Canadian National Institute on Health and Healing has defined it as “the well being of the body.”
Mental health is an umbrella term used to encompass the mental health issues of a person. Anxiety, depression, panic attacks, psychosis and schizophrenia are all examples of mental health issues. Other common mental health issues include alcohol or drug abuse, eating disorders and sleep disorders. Mental health issues are extremely important as they can wreak havoc on a person’s well being and cause serious damage to one’s emotions. There are many programs in place around the world to help people overcome mental health issues.
Physical well-being refers to the condition of your organs, bones, muscles, nerves and other internal systems. When your body is functioning well, you will be physically healthy. A combination of a healthy diet, regular exercise and good health practices can maintain good health. When you are suffering from a physical illness, it can affect the amount of energy that you have in your day to day activities. It can also affect the way that you think and feel so it is imperative that you address any physical illness as soon as you notice that you are experiencing it.
