Beauty
Beauty is commonly defined as a subjective feeling of aesthetic qualities that make these qualities aesthetically pleasing to see. These qualities may include humans, nature, landscapes and works of art just to name a few. Beauty, along with personal taste and aesthetics, is perhaps the most important consideration of aesthetics, among the major branches of applied psychology. It has also been used in various fields as an explanation for various phenomena.
Most people consider beauty to be internal, i.e. a state of one’s own mind or inner beauty. However, beauty is not only a subjective state, it is often a result of other factors such as the social and cultural aspects that influence the way we look. Among those factors, beauty standards are one important factor that has become a part of many people’s lives.
Beauty standards vary widely and beauty trends among cultures can be very different. Beauty standards are generally agreed upon by both men and women. Beauty trends are influenced by the media and beauty products and are especially influenced by the way in which society perceives beauty. In addition to beauty standards, beauty has been found to influence many other aspects of an individual’s life such as career, love life and friendships. In today’s society, beauty and fashion seem to be more important than ever and the media continue to influence young and old alike to identify and reach their personal beauty goals.
