Computer Games

A computer game or video game is an electronically based interactive computer game that entails interaction with a user interface or external input device such as a mouse, joystick, stick, foot pedal, or even a motion-sensitive pad to generate virtual visual feedback to the user. In the past, computer games were designed for use by the majority of children in schools and colleges; however, with the increase in popularity of online gaming, it is now used by people from all walks of life who have found that the computer allows them to be able to participate in a virtual world that is entirely removed from any type of traditional expectations. Video games can also be played at home on personal computers and handheld gaming consoles such as the Nintendo Wii.

In the early 1990s, video game companies began to realize that the market for their products would expand beyond the typical gaming enthusiast who enjoyed playing the games by themselves. The increased popularity of massively multiplayer online role-playing games or MMORPGs led to an increase in the demand for more graphics and more realistic game features. In order to succeed within the highly competitive market, game developers turned to the popular practice of outsourcing game design and development. This process proved to be a huge success and hundreds of game developers formed teams around the world in order to take advantage of this new market. Today, there are literally thousands of game titles available.

Computer game technology has continued to grow with each new title released, creating new possibilities for players around the world. Some of these video games require extremely complex code to run, requiring years of training to learn in order to master the complicated programming language required. Other titles may only take a few minutes to learn the basics of using the game engine. Regardless of what type of game you prefer to play, chances are that there is a computer game out there that you could play. Playing a video game is a great way to relax, escape, and to compete with other individuals or with the game itself.
